Who We Are

Sherrie Bumstead (Missionary)

Sherrie grew up in Southeast Texas and attended University at Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Missionary Health, which provided a degree in Bible and Nursing. Sherrie then moved to New Orleans and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where she obtained her Master's Degree. While in New Orleans, she worked as a bedside registered nurse at Ochsner and Tulane Hospitals in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. At Tulane, she functioned as transport RN, ECMO pump tech, and head nurse, which led to her becoming the Outcomes/Research Coordinator. While in New Orleans, Sherrie was involved in leading Women’s Ministry Bible Studies, mentoring women, and a team member who led Women’s Conferences.

In 2002, God reaffirmed that He wanted Sherrie to do ministry overseas.  Sherrie left for Africa in 2003 with the International Mission Board.  She has had the privilege of ministering in three different countries in Africa; Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.  The Lord has enabled Sherrie to establish Bethany World Ministries, Inc. in Zambia, which is involved in discipleship ministry, church planting, building a rural area clinic, and establishing an orphanage.
